Whitney Houston is my all time favourite female vocalist. She is truly the black female superstar of the eighties. Whitney Houston is a perfect a representation of the ideal black young black America, combining talent, beauty , youth and success as Diana Ross was to her generation. Now she is more dynamic and matured in her music. While possesing an excellent voice, especially for the pop idiom, Whitney is unlikely to be remembered or heralded as one of the great female voices in soul music. She is, however a soul star.
She
was born in 1963, the daughter of Cissy Houston and niece of Dionne Warwick,
and took her early vocal coaching at the New Hope Baptist Church where
her mother was minister of music.
She
began her professional career as a model, lending her slender figure and
good looks to the pages of Cosmopolitan and Seventeen while simultaneously
taking her gospel-trained vocals into clubland where she came to the attention
of Arista Records' president Clive Davis.
My
idol...This man is Frank Sinatra. But Frank has gone. The 01' Blue Eyes
have closed for the last time. The voice is stilled for eternity. The song
has ended. But Frank Sinatra will live forever in my memory and heart.
He died od a heart attack at 10:50 on the evening of May 14, 1998. He'd
lived for 82 years. As a boy, Frank dreamed of building bridges. Instead
he built and international following of fans and carved out a niche as
the greatest singer of all time.
Sinatra
was blessed with a smooth baritone that soothed and seduced millions. He
played his voice like a Stardivarius violin, evoking loneliness, love and
a flood of other emotions simply by holding and carressing a single note.
Sinatra's incredible talent awed his peers. His idol Bing Crosby once said
: " Frank is a singer who comes along only once in a lifetime. "
Now the lifetime is over. But through his hundreds of wonderful recordings,
which still sell millions, Sinatra will be with us always. I would like
to say thank you, thank you Frank Sinatra for singing for me and
for the world.
